Legalization of Powers of Attorney not Drafted at the Consulate

All powers of attorney (POA), general or special, not drafted at the Consular Section should:

  1. Include the name, date and place of birth, address and telephone number of the person/s granting the POA.
  2. For real estate and banking matters, should be signed in front of 2 independent witnesses (not relatives) whose names should figure on the power of attorney itself along with their place and date of birth, address and telephone numbers.
  3. Be legalized by a notary public, then signed by the county clerk wherever required (New York State), and later authenticated by the Secretary of the State where the POA is drafted.

At the Consulate

Legalizations of POAs not drafted at the Consulate don’t require any prior appointments. Kindly walk in during our business hours. Check our holiday and working hours schedule for more details.

Complete a POA application (select the link to get the form) and provide the following:

  • POA legalized by a notary public, then signed by the county clerk wherever required (New York State), and later authenticated by the Secretary of the State where the POA is drafted, and a copy of the said documents.
  • Valid passport, Lebanese identification card (I.D.), or family/individual ikhraj kayd issued within the last 10 years and a copy of the said document.
  • Fees:
    • General POA: $100 for each signature of the person/s granting the POA and for those whom she/he/they are representing (only money orders payable to the Consulate General of Lebanon are accepted).
    • Special POA: $50 for each signature of the person/s granting the POA and for those whom she/he/they are representing (only money orders payable to the Consulate General of Lebanon are accepted).
  • Certified self-addressed and stamped envelope for return (no return fees are accepted) if the documents are to be returned by mail.
