Legalization of Wills Not Drafted at the Consulate

Please be advised that the heirs of the deceased or their representatives should submit to the Consulate within 90 days from the date of death, a written statement including the following information:
- The name and address of the deceased.
- The names and addresses of the heirs or beneficiaries.
- Full description of the wealth inherited, whether liquid or fixed assets, including its real value and location if applicable.
In addition, all wills should include the name, date and place of birth, address and telephone numbers of the signatories, and should be signed in the presence of two witnesses not related by kin.
At the Consulate
Complete a legalization application (select the link to get the form) and enclose the following:
- Will legalized by a notary public, then signed by the county clerk wherever required (New York State), and later authenticated by the Secretary of the State where the will is drafted, and a copy of the said documents.
- Death certificate of the deceased (where applicable) and a copy of the said document.
- For the testator: valid passport, Lebanese identification card (I.D.), and family/individual ikhraj kayd and a copy of the said documents.
- For each of the beneficiaries: valid passport, Lebanese identification card (I.D.), or family/individual ikhraj kayd and a copy of the said document.
- Deed of trust (where applicable) and a copy of the said document.
- Fees: $125 for each signatory (only money orders payable to the Consulate General of Lebanon are accepted).
- Certified self-addressed and stamped envelope for return (no return fees are accepted) if the documents are to be returned by mail.
